About the artist
Catarina Riccabona is a London-based textile artist who creates unique one-of-a-kind pieces, mainly throws and wall hangings. “I really enjoy the process of hand-weaving. Its slow-paced, contemplative nature as well as the possibility to make changes spontaneously and to use unconventional yarns offer a creative dimension that goes beyond the mere production of a piece.” This process – on the one hand highly structured, on the other hand very improvised – is key to her designs. “When I start a piece, I often don’t know what it will look like finished. Once I have set up my loom and put some parameters in place, I weave in a spontaneous, intuitive way, simultaneously creating and executing ideas. Each piece is a unique arrangement of elements and a new composition.”
